Not Just a Snap Shot

This last weekend I was fortunate enough to be a part of a professional photo shoot. I was the assistant art director, and helped with the creative aspects as well as the more menial tasks. It was so much fun! I would love to work creatively like that every day!

The focus was on stationary, more specifically letter-pressed invitations. We had four themed bridal sets: Romantic Shabby Chic, Vintage 1920s Art Deco, Classic Ralph Lauren, and Modern Couture. We were at a photography studio in Massachusetts, and we brought almost all of the set backdrops and props with us. This includes, but is not limited to, curtains, vases, chest of drawers, mirror, chair, ottoman, and chandelier. There were two models, hairdresser, make-up artist, photographer, photographer's assistant, florist, art director, and of course director (stationary designer) and assistants. The photo shoot was organized to have the products for a trade show in New York, where all the big names will be (such as Martha Stuart, and others).

While this was my first photo shoot, I have had the opportunity to be a part of many film shoots. It was nice to have that experience under my belt. It helped to prepare me to be aware of the little details, and be more helpful. I think it also encouraged the creative side of me, allowing me to give some quality suggestions. And it taught me how important every job is on set--no matter how small. So a big shout out to my dad for all the great experience!

Also a big shout out to Chard, who was the art director and made it possible for me to come along and learn from him! He has an eye for composition, vast knowledge of styles and colors, a knack for perfect placement, and a huge heart.

I had the chance to make some great contacts and get a little hands-on experience. Whether or not this leads to anymore in the future, I was so blessed to have this opportunity!

Congrats!

P.S. How are you healing?

I don't have any of the photos yet, but hopefully soon! And I went off crutches on Friday, and am now getting out of the removeable cast. It will be nice to be able to drive again and get out more!
