There is this song in Summer Magic that seems to fit.
"It's time for flitterin',
Dustin' off the trunk and flitterin' far,
Where the grass is greener
Now and then comes the time again
For flitterin'.
We'll soon be packin' up,
Stackin' up our dreams and bric-a-brac for
Some new destination
Don't know where, but we're goin' there,
We're flitterin' again.
New places, new faces,
New friendships will start
While old places, old faces
Stay dear to our heart
As we go flitterin'
Followin' a rainbow glitterin' bright
Over the horizon
Maybe then and maybe there
We'll settle down and never care
For flitterin', flitterin', flitterin'...again."

Talk About Timing...
Big news. Reid has accepted a job at Pixar! He will still be flying here on Sunday, but will only be staying for three weeks. Then Reid goes back to CA to start work on the 22nd of September. I will follow soon after. We will for sure be out of Providence by the end of October. Reid will finish getting his master's degree at a later time, probably from a school in CA.
This is terribly exciting news! But I have to admit that I am going to seriously miss my friends here in Providence. Yet it's good to know that we'll stay in touch, and hopefully they'll come visit us on the West Coast!
I don't think this huge change has really sunk in for me yet. I am a little numb from the suddenness of it all. I'll keep you posted (ha ha)as things progress.
I'm going to California......

World of Change
Providence is a city of movement and life. It seems as if everything and everyone are constantly undergoing alterations. I can provide yet another of these shifts. Yesterday, my roommate Shelly moved out. It's a little strange to not have her here in the evening. after three months of sharing meals, activities, and space. We had a great summer together and I miss her already!
But, I have to admit that I like the fluctuations of the city. We've only been here a year, and already been in two apartments. And so I am enjoying this little space of time where I have the apartment all to myself. Sunday Reid will come home. Yay! It will certainly be wonderful to have him back! We will have a couple days together, to get a few things done, and get to have some fun too! Then things will change again as classes begin on the 3rd. Our friend Scott will get back from vaca and move in. We are looking forward to having him!
So today I have been busy busy starting to get ready for the guys. What better way to prepare for change than to change everything around you? If you know me at all, you know I have been moving things around, re-organizing, cleaning, sorting, etc. I never seem to get tired of recreating a space. I guess I fit in well in this ever-modifying place.
I know that there is almost a month until the official first day of Fall, but with schools starting back up, students pouring back into the city, and the sun setting so much earlier here, it is certainly feeling like the end of summer. It's hard to believe three months have passed since Reid left for CA.
The world just continues to change around me. Sometimes I feel like Hugh Grant in Knotting Hill, walking down the street as the world shifts. But then I look back, and I realize I've changed too. This one week of calm, and then we'll see what the wind brings...

Time Paused
One of the best things about movies is the way that the characters are frozen in time. For example, I have been in love with Richard Chamberlain for as long as I can remember. Okay, not in love with him per say, but with the prince he plays in the musical The Slipper and the Rose. It's fantastic that at any time, I can pop in the dvd, and there, right before my eyes is Richard Chamberlain, looking exactly the same as he has since 1976. Still handsome, still charming, still sweet, still as amazingly masculine even in frills and embroidered jackets. No matter what life throws at me, I can rely on Richard to sing about life's ironies, complications, and love. And he'll dance, just as perfectly as he did the time before. The prince of every girl's dreams. Yes, movies are a wonderful way to be transported into another time, whether a time in our own past or to the past kept perfectly preserved in the film. And we're transported back to the same thoughts, emotions, and oh so witty conversations we've had before while watching the film...yep, I've been in love with Richard Chamberlain for as long as I can remember. Now, since I am finally of an age to win a prince, if I could only stop aging along with the characters in the films (although, now that I'm reading The Picture of Dorian Gray, I should take that wish back...could have dangerous results). But perhaps this blog is my way of stopping time, this post will forever hold the 23 year old me. Or I can just watch the film and go back in time.

Favorite Things
These are a few of my favorite things...(Props to Michka for using this idea first.)
Soft rouge velvet. Getting a letter in the mail. The word pumpernickel. A conversation with friends.
Books. I almost always have a book with me--this way I am never bored. If I have to wait for something or someone, I just pull out my book and read. I never tire of exploring literary worlds. And if a book is good--I will visit its world over and over again.
People. I love the energy of people, and enjoy places that are buzzing with activity.
Hot drinks. I love cocoa, especially with marshmallows on top and sitting in front of the fireplace. I love tea, preferably english breakfast in one of my favorite cups. I love coffee--in basically any form. Black, cream, sugar, foam, no foam, whip, latte, cappuccino, flavoring, no flavoring--you name it, I'll inhale it.
Long walks in the rain. Pot roast. Going for a drive out in the country. Cuddling with my cats in a chair.
Music. I don't listen to music--I absorb it. I love to sing it, play it, write it, walk to it, dance to it, watch others play it. And I always have an emotional reaction to it. There is always music on wherever I am, if not out loud, than at least in my head.
Homemade macaroni and cheese. Puppy dog ears. Bell chimes. Lists.
